This magnum (1.5L) of Ashes & Diamonds 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon No. 1 hails from the Red Hen Vineyard and spent 17 days in stainless steel tanks. Red Hen Vineyard is another of Bart and Daphne Araujos biodynamically farmed sites. The property sits in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, located in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, across Highway 29 from A&D Vineyard. With well-draining gravel and cobblestones suspended in alluvial silt and clay, the soil here acts like a sponge, naturally pulling rainwater down from the mountains and requiring little to no irrigation. It also encourages fine tannins and finesse in the resulting wines. Red Hens Cabernets have a quiet power, poise, and impressive length with silky, weightless tannins that are the hallmark of this benchland site.
Ashes & Diamonds Winery is the ultimate convergence of modern and old-school flavors, committed to offering a wide-ranging group of wines that adhere to an ethos of light-handed winemaking and transparency of terroir. You and a friend will taste this yourself with a tasting for two at A&D Winery, located at the gateway of Napa Valley. The tasting can be enjoyed in the stylish mid-century modern lounge area, at their tasting bar, or on their outdoor patio, which overlooks the estate vineyards. The winery's iconic zig-zag roof and portholes reference the heritage of California mid-century modern design, and are seamlessly integrated with a state-of-the-art wine production facility surrounded by light, airy landscapes and playful, rolling berms.
