THE SR. JUDITH PETERS LEARNING COMMONS (SJP)

INTRODUCING THE 2019 FUND-A-NEED:
 
We plan to do some remodeling this summer in order to provide a space for your children to study, collaborate, enjoy a good book or receive special educational services. We plan tocreate a Learning Commons -- THE SR. JUDITH PETERS LEARNING COMMONS.
 
What is a Learning Commons?A Learning Commons is a whole school approach to building a participatory learning community - it is the physical and virtual collaborative learning hub of the school. It is designed to engineer and drive future-oriented learning and teaching throughout the entire school. Inquiry, project/problem-based learning experiences are designed as catalysts for intellectual engagement with information, ideas, thinking, and dialogue. Reading thrives, learning literacies and technology competencies evolve, and critical thinking, creativity, innovation and playing to learn are nourished. Everyone is a learner; everyone is a teacher working collaboratively toward excellence.
 
The SJP Learning Commons will include the following ZONES:
  • The Individual Study Zone- For students who want to study or work on their own. It will include computer workstations and quiet desk spaces for those who prefer a space away from students who may be working together.
  • The Collaborative Zone- Focus is on project-based learning and group work. Teamwork, multimedia collaboration and displaying student work are encouraged. It includes group tech stations and large work spaces.
  • The Reading Lounge Zone-Forthose students who wish to get lost in a good book. The space is cozy with flexible and comfortable seating including floor pillows.
  • The Resource Zone- Will provide a private space for one-on-one supervised instruction for the short and long term learning needs of students who require an accelerated learning pace or greater support in academics.
 
The project remodel will also include an office for an Education Specialist as well as a faculty restroom. Please note that the images are solely for representation of the project idea and plans are subject to change.
