Item Description
929 is the number of chapters in the Tanakh, the Hebrew Bible, and began as an Israeli project. The project involves reading the Tanakh one chapter a day, five per week, together with a website with creative readings, pluralistic interpretations and short commentaries in Hebrew, including audio and video, by a wide range of writers, artists, musicians, rabbis, educators, and more.
Now in English, 929 is dedicated to creating a global Jewish conversation around issues that unite and divide us, but always anchored in, based on, or inspired by the formative text of our common Jewish heritage, the Tanakh, the Hebrew Bible.
929 English features daily content centered on basic issues within society, ethical dilemmas, questions of identity, gender and social justice, democracy and governance and other relevant and pertinent issues – all through the prism of Tanakh. Tanakh is thrilling, inspiring, and moving – but also perplexing, contradictory, thought-provoking and controversial. It offers us the journeys of individuals and the sagas of families, private loves and national empire-building, moments of kindness and epic wars, angry prophecies alongside tender poetry, stirring legends and words of deep philosophy. Come join in the conversation!
Item Special Note
Text-text study and creative workshop will be led by 929's Director of Education, Shira Hecht-Koller, Esq and can be tailored for any age and learning level.
