Item Description
Among the Stonington Historical Society's most remarkable artifacts is the Stonington Battle Flag. The original measures 30 x 34 feet and has 16 stars shaped like starfish and 16 stripes and was made by the women of Stonington. The flag is comparable to the Star Spangled Banner, only older. The flag was proudly flown over the Harbor of Stonington throughout the three day long bombardment by the British navy in August of 1814 and immediately became a symbol of the town's spirited independence and bravery.
This replica is high quality appliqued nylon and measures 6' x 8'.
