Item Description
These Juzu Beads, Tendai's Rosary, are from Kyotoasahiya, made of Ume (Japanese plum) and wood. Tendai is a school of Mahayana Buddhism in Japan, a descendant of the Chinese Tiantai or Lotus Sutra school.
Kyotoasahiya is based in Kyoto, Japan - a famous place for producing Buddhist Prayer Beads. Juzu are used as a traditional tool used to count the number of times a mantra is recited, breaths while meditating, counting prostrations, or the repetitions of a buddha's name.
