Item Description
This autographed throwback jersey is a replica jersey produced by South Carolina-based Japanese American hip hop artist G Yamazawa in honor of Wataru “Wat” Misaka, who in 1947 became the first Japanese American and also first non-white basketball player in the NBA (then called the BAA) while playing point guard for the New York Knicks. The jersey is for Wat Misaka’s junior college team Weber College, with whom he won two championships. He then went on to play for Utah State, and won the NCAA championship in 1944. Wat Misaka autographed the jersey for Center staff member Haruka Roudebush this summer at the JACL National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.
[2019] Cut and sew throwback jersey inspired by Misaka’s championship run at Weber College, and a fire red Japanese colorway. Each purchase includes a retro basketball card, designed by Gabe Gets. Made in USA.
