Item Description

Sadao Watanabe (1913-1996) was a Japanese woodblock print artist known for his mingei style depictions of biblical images.

Watanabe’s work is very popular with mingei collectors as he worked as an apprentice for famous textile artist Keisuke Serizawa and uses the katazome technique-crumbled wet paper with mixed pigments suspended in soy milk-to produce his work.  Watanabe’s work has appeared at the MOMA in New York, Art Institute of Chicago and the National Museum of Art in Tokyo.

This unique woodblock entitled “Noah’s  Arc” retails for $1,150.
