Ashby Carlisle, graduate of Beloit College and CT State University, is a sculptor who exhibits throughout CT. Her most recent shows include 8 Visions at the AAM, Crosscurrents: A Connecticut Sea Grant Art Exhibition at the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery of Art in Groton, CT, and a solo show at The Garde Arts Center in New London, CT. Before… is a sculptural landscape in which plants are the central focus and evidence of Man has yet to appear on the scene. For Ashby, plants, especially vines, represent the tenacious force of Nature to survive and proliferate in the face of Man's determination to tame them. In Before… the artist used hand dyed papers, assorted papers, steel with bronze detailing, and porcelain clay to create the image.
