Washington Walks founder Carolyn Crouch was pursuing her graduate degree in acting when she met and married her husband, who lived in Washington DC. Everything was supposed to go according to plan. After a perfect wedding and honeymoon, she'd return home to DC to complete her acting studies and audition for roles.
One walking tour of London was all it took to change everything. Carolyn returned from her London honeymoon with two loves: her husband and walking tours.
Based on her London experiences, she started creating walking tours where none existed before for her newly adopted Washington. In 1999, Washington Walks became the first company to offer walking tours of the nation’s capital. Crouch created Washington Walks to tell the stories of the people and places in America’s capital you just can’t get from glancing out of a tour bus window. As Crouch explains, “There is more to D.C. than just the famous monuments and the National Mall. With a walking tour, people get to experience so much more.
