Item Description
Gouache
32" x 23.5" x 1
After studying illustration and painting at the MFA School and Massachusetts College of Art, Kristin Stashenko worked as a commercial artist for 15 years. Tired of working on assignment she decided to take the plunge into fine art. Kristin has become a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, the New England Watercolor Society, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society and the Copley Society of Art.
This painting takes its inspiration from a trip to Italy. My process for watercolor paintings includes a fairly careful drawing with respect to perspective. Much planning occurs before actually painting as major corrections in gouache are just not possible. Once that is done I can be much freer in the paint application. When I begin painting I identify my darkest areas first, then a predominant color to play off the darks. Usually I paint colors as I feel them. By this time the photo reference is no longer important.
