Item Description

Bidding is for the piece shown in the first picture. The rest of the pictures are included to show how the piece was made so the buyer can appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this truly unique piece.

Raku pit firing is an ancient process by which pieces of pottery are placed in a hole in the ground, wood is carefully piled over them and a fire is lit. The wood fire "cooks" the pieces to their final finished state. Modern raku pit firings use natural, organic, elements to enhance the colors of the finished piece and may be fired in barrels instead of the ground. The pit fire process results in random variations of color and intensity making each piece unique. These hand-made pieces are truly one-of-a-kind works of art. Please note that raku pit fired pieces are not water tight. They make great decorations on all their own or supplemented with dried flowers, herbs or other natural elements in them. This piece is approximately 7" tall and 3.5" wide.
