The successful bidder for this item will be entitled to a six-night residential retreat at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California during 2020. 

Set among 411 acres of serene oak woodlands in the secluded hills of West Marin County, California, Spirit Rock Meditation Center is a refuge from everyday life where it's possible to quiet the mind, soften the heart and see life in a new way. People go to Spirit Rock for many reasons, but they amount to essentially the same thing — wanting a more easeful relationship with life. The spaciousness and stillness of Spirit Rock and the caring teachers, staff and volunteers, create a supportive environment for turning inward and letting go of the struggles that get in the way of experiencing the freedom and joy that are inherent in every moment of life. 

A retreat provides an opportunity and a caring container for undertaking intensive meditation, like an immersion course in a language. The central practice on retreats is mindfulness, which enables people to see the ways they create difficulties in their lives and to discover a freedom of heart in the midst of all things. The mindfulness practice on retreats is often accompanied and complemented by training in loving-kindness meditation.

Spirit Rock Meditation Center began in 1982 when a small group of sitters in Northern California met to create a west coast retreat center. In 1987, this dedicated group purchased 412 acres in rural Marin County from the Nature Conservancy. The residential retreat center opened in 1998 and currently hosts about 40 retreats per year of varying lengths, from three nights to two months. Its purpose is "to help each individual find peace, compassion and wisdom through the practice of mindfulness and Insight Meditation (Vipassana), and to support the individual in taking those qualities into the world."

Travel expenses are the responsibility of the recipient.
