Pont Aven Houses: 24" x 20". "For one entire summer I painted in Pont Aven, the French town made famous by Paul Gauguin. This is a view from one end of the foot bridge spanning the Aven river."
About the Artist:
William Covel Lewis, this accomplished and prolific creator of delightful landscapes and genre scenes in the Impressionist style is, remarkably, a largely self-taught painter. He received a minuscule amount of formal art instruction at Atlanta's High Museum School of Art and the Chicago Art Institute. Bill worked as an advertising executive and traveled extensively as an international trade entrepreneur, during which he painted quick watercolor sketches of places he visited across the United States and abroad. Upon retiring from the business, he decided to turn his lifelong hobby into a full-time pursuit. He moved to Mexico and then to France, immersing himself in mastering the use of oil paints as his primary medium. His persistence and native ability paid off in wide acceptance in just a few years. His works are held nationally in both private and public collections.
