Item Description

What a treat! Twelve bottles of wine to get you through the holiday season in style. We'll let John Carnahan, the conoisseur, explain his personal selection:

This year, I have included several white wines in the case, though still with little variety. Two of the whites are Sauvignon Blancs, one by Ceptembre and the other by Traverso. The first is French, the latter, Italian, and I have enjoyed both during a long, pleasant summer. The third white is a Riesling from Germany, from Korrell, and I liked it enough to reorder it several times this year.

The reds are a real mix of wines, rather than a half dozen Cabernets. The first, in no particular order, is a Rioja, Altos de la Guardia, from Spain, a really nice easy to drink wine I hope someone will enjoy.

The next is a Tuscan red from Italy called Saracosa Governo. Again, a very nice red wine which I enjoyed with lamb recently, but should hold up with any meat or cheese dish.

Next is an American blend from Schoken Hill in California. A medium body wine that matches well with soups and stews and sharp cheeses, it was a surprise to me, and an enjoyable one.

Then, Plan de Dieu, a Cote du Rhone blend that is a fine go-to wine with any red meat dish or savory cheese.

Fresh out of my most recent case of wine from Wall Street Journal Wines, comes a Pinot Noir from Forbes Creek vineyards in California, a very nice pinot, with a taste light enough to drink with salmon as well as red meat dishes.

A second Pinot Noir, from Curlew Vineyards in California, is a delightful, easy drinking pinot I have ordered over and over again.

Just for a little balance, I am including a bottle of Chianti you might enjoy with your favorite pasta dish with a savory, tomato-based sauce. This wine will stand up to garlic, oregano, basil, and any meat you might add to your sauce.

Next is a fine Malbec from Argentina. I often find malbecs heavy and hard to match with particular foods, but this one is smoother, and matches up well with any food you migt eat with a Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine from Ascencion is delicious.

And, last but not least, I am including a Cabernet Sauvignon from Robert Storey Cellars, one of my favorite wine makers. I have them from a variety of years, but thought I'd include this 2014, and hope you find it enjoyable!"

Well, there you have it, folks! Twelve amazing bottles of wine that are sure to delight any taste buds.
