Over the course of the last 46 years he has written for many sections of the paper, winning a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting in 1983 for an article on the nuclear arms race.

Powers is now retired from writing full-time for The Globe, but continues to serve as a contributor during both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. Powers has covered each Olympic Games since 1976 in Montreal.

He is also the author of 11 books, including 'Fridays with Bill: Inside the Football Mind of Bill Belichick.'

Powers is an Advisory Board Member of the Harvard Varsity Club and co-author of 'The Third H Book of Harvard Athletics.'

John and his The Boston Globe colleagues of the mid-1970's to early-80's were featured by Sports Illustrated as being the "greatest collection of reporting talent ever assembled in a sports section." Read the story here: https://www.si.com/more-sports/2009/06/03/globe
