Read more about the artist:
Ending a career in commercial and corporate real estate in both Vermont and Virginia, Kay divided her time between Norfolk and Mathews County, Virginia. In 1999 she opened a retail store/gallery which showcased regional artist in Mathews, Virginia.
Kay began to pursue her interest in art with mosaic tile, glass wall art and painting in acrylic with mostly a primitive and folk art style. The introduction to oil came while visiting Key West in the winter of 2008, under the guidance of noted and published Key West artist Letty Nowak. Since that time Kay has continued her interest in oil with both private lessons from the late Charles Kello and numerous workshops from Key West to Maine. During the summer of 2008 Kay made the decision to close her store in order to focus full time on painting.
Having been born in eastern North Carolina and growing up in eastern Virginia, it is the landscapes that reflect the beautiful marshes, beaches and water which gives Kay inspiration in addition to her travels. Kay uses a limited palette to capture atmosphere, light and shadows.
May 2016 Kay returned to Norfolk as a full time resident and has her art studio on the second floor in the Monticello Arcade Building, downtown Norfolk.
