Item Description

Autographed Copy - Surrender to Win The Autobiography of the Honorable Francis X. Kelly Jr - The Autograph reads " To Friend of UHCCF, May God Bless whoever reads this book! Francis X Kelly."

The Honorable Francis X. Kelly Jr.'s journey from the stoops of Brooklyn to a seat of power and influence in Baltimore is living proof that to win in business, in poitics, and in life, you must first surrender.

Frank Kelly's story of taking risks, solving problems, hold firm to convictions at high personal cost, and unwavering faith in the face of adversity earned him a place in the inaugural class of The Baltimore Sun's Business and Civic Hall of Fame.

WIth five children and scant savings, Frank and his wife, Janet, started a health insurance brokerage in the basement of their home. Over the years, their four sons joined the business and grew it into one of the nation's largest providers of benefits administrartion and technology, broker and consulting services, and payroll solutions.

In 1978, Frank Kelly beat the odds to win election to the Maryland State Senate. It was the start of a public service career that included accomplishments such as expanding Baltimore's world-renowed Shock Trama Center, building Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and turning a struggling hospital into the hub of the $5 Billion University of Maryland Medical System.

Frank's Senate career was defined by bringing factions together and standing up for his convictions. On of those convictions - the sancitity of human life - led to his defeat after 12 years of service.

Undaunted, Fank forged ahead and accomplished more in community service than he might have if he had remained in the Senate. Among his many contributions, Frank is the immediate pas Chair of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and remains on its board. He served on the University System of Maryland Board of Regents and is Board Chair of the newly created Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center.

Simple principles guide Frank's approach to life. One is the advice from his father to put God first in his life. Another is cherishing the gift of the present moment, a one-day-at-a-time approach to life he learned from a Franciscan monk and Alcoholics Anonymous.

With Irish wit and bubbling enthusiasm, Frank tells the inside stories that answer the question, "How did you do it."
