Item Description

This booklet, "Civil defense and Vocational Education," was published by the American Vocatinal Association in 1956-1957 (based on the listing of officers.) The material was approved by the Committee on Civil Defense and Vocational Education.

As stated in the forward, "Civil defense is an insurance policy - it begins with the individual and ends with the protection of the nation. It is like making a suit of clothes for a man you have never seen, or like a parachute - if it is not ready the first time, you will not need it again. Civil defense is an obligation of every person in the United States."

The booklet was designed particularly for vocational and practical arts teachers and officials and for students enrolled in such classes. It was "hoped that the material presented would arouse them to be more concerned about civil defense ant to fully understand the seriousness of the situation - and to take effective action."

This is a piece of U.S. history and history of the cold war.
