Item Description
The Sweetwater Fly Rods 2019 Casting for Recovery rod is another beautiful rod made by Charles Armontrout a supporter of the Mid-Atlantic program.
Charles began building fishing rods in 1973 then building fly rods exclusively in 2003. Donated the first fly rod to Casting for Recovery's Mid-Atlantic Program in 2011.
It is graphite model SHX-903.4 I purchased from Bingham Enterprises in what the manufacturer calls a Titanium Grey gloss. The rod is a 9'0" 3wt 4 piece that will be delivered in a burgundy color Clear Creek canvas covered hard case with internal dividers for each rod section.
The grip is created from purchased "composite cork" rings that are made with a mix of natural and burnt cork pieces, built up to a length of 7" total.
The guides are Dk Nickel Snake Brand snake guides and tip top dressed of with an ALPS Tich Chrome stripping guide that has a Gold Zirconia ceramic ring. T
The reel seat is anodized aluminum, down-locking in what I call a "Golden Bronze" color. This seat is complimented with a piece of "pink" wood that I had purchased in an antique store along with a set of SINGER sewing machine legs it happened to be laying on.
The action of this rod with an Orvis 3WF floating line is close to a moderate-fast and lays out the line very well at distances suitable for a 3wt. A 4WF floating RIO is also quite acceptable on this rod as well. The completed rods weighs only 4.0 ounces.
See more of Charles' comments regarding this rod which are included with the images of this gorgeous rod.
