This Senator George Memorial Issue stamp features a portrait of United States Senator Walter F. George, Democrat from Georgia. He served in the Senate for 34 years, during five presidential administrations, from Calvin Coolidge to Dwight D. Eisenhower. Following his retirement from the Senate, George was appointed ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by President Eisenhower.
