Item Description

The Bassist's Bible: How to Play Every Bass Style from Afro-Cuban to Zydeco with 2 CDs and DVD

by Tim Boomer with Mick Berry

This encyclopedic book/2-CD set contains approximately 400 bass grooves written out in standard notation, histories of all styles covered, typical chord progressions and scales used with them, and innumerable helpful performance tips. The two accompanying CDs feature performances of nearly 200 of the grooves, including every primary style example, with drum set accompaniment. Styles covered include blues, rock, jazz, reggae, country, klezmer, ska, samba, punk, surf, heavy metal, latin rock, funk, and on and on ¿ virtually every style a performing bassist will ever need to play.

REVIEW

"This cool new book seeks to describe all that the average player will need to know to have a workable familiarity with nearly every common musical style. Each style is listed alphabetically, and each entry includes a historical background, hallmarks of the groove, gear, chord progressions, and tempos typical of the style, and a variety of musical examples reinforced by the included play-along CD. Naturally, mainstream styles like rock, blues, and R&B [are included], but so are Klezmer, ethnic wedding dances, and Afro-Cuban. The Bassist's Bible will prove useful on many a working pro's reference shelf."
