Item Description
Military challenge coins have a long a proud tradition dating back to World War I. The purpose of military challenge coins started out as a way for pilots to prove their identity when shot down behind enemy lines and has evolved into a passion for collecting and winning coins from the different military branches and units. In today’s world the military coin has evolved into more than just the personal keepsake. Challenge coins are collected, traded, coveted and horded among not only active duty personnel but also government agencies, fire departments and police forces around the world. As a sign of welcome and respect foreign dignitaries and special guests are frequently given challenge coins to mark their visit to a unit or government office. The White House even has custom made challenge coins given out to dignitaries and officials to mark their visit dating back to Ronald Reagans time in office.
