Item Description

Private tour (up to 6 people) of an archaeology lab with the lab’s director and archaeologist, Dr. Clark Wernecke – to see artifacts the Gault Site

The Gault Site north of Austin is one of the earliest known sites of human
habitation in the Americas, with artifacts that date to at least 14,500 years
ago and a huge collection of Clovis-era artifacts. It’s a place that is
redefining the history of the earliest Americans, and a site that is known
and studied by researchers worldwide.

Take a special tour of the GSAR lab, where you can talk with archeologists who work at Gault and see artifacts from the site – stone tools, works of portable art and more. Your host will be the site’s director, Dr. Clark Wernecke, an expert in the peopling of the Americas. Your group of up to 6 people will enjoy a visit to GSAR’s lab at UT’s Pickle Center, where many of the 2.6 million artifacts excavated from the Gault Site are stored.

You can also talk with Dr. Wernecke about planning a visit to the Gault Site, which is open to the public once a month for scheduled tours, and also by appointment for groups of 10 or more people.

The lab tour will happen at a time that’s agreed upon by Wernecke and the
winner of this bid.
