This auction lot is a perennial favorite around here. The word is out, there are renowned tamale makers in our community, and they are willing to share the bounty of their families' secret recipes to support the UpValley Family Centers. So, here it is, again!

Today, no celebration in the Mexican community is complete without a proper showing of tamales. Families argue over who makes the best ones, and friendly rivalries abound. Now, here is your chance to be the lucky recipient of 100 home-made tamales (or two batches of 50). This year they will be made by six sisters who form the heart and center of a large and close-knit family here in Napa. At a young age these six women brought their families to the US from Michoacán; decades later, they still nurture an extended family (including over 40 first cousins alone!) with their delicious homemade cooking. Affectionately referred to as the 'chickens' by their loved ones because of how loud, fun, and close they are, they are especially celebrated for their unmatched tamales. Take one bite and you can taste the love and passion they pour into their cooking - and into their family.

One of the sisters' sons now serves on the UpValley Family Centers' Board - so the family centers are close to the family's heart, and they're graciously contributing their tamale-making prowess to help support our work in the community.

Pork, chicken, or vegetarian/cheese - the choice is yours! For the vegetarians there's even a sweet pineapple-based option, and your meat tamale comes with a choice of green or red sauce.

Tamales are just perfect for a large family celebration or other special occasion. We are grateful to the Gallegos sisters for their contribution, and pleased that you and your family will have a chance to enjoy their wonderful and delicious creations. Here is your chance to bring your own loved ones together to enjoy hand-made tamales - and to celebrate the sharing of delicious food as the foundation of all things family.

Tamales will be delivered in Napa County, or may be picked up at one of the UpValley Family Center locations, in St. Helena or Calistoga. May be redeemed all at once (100) or in two batches of 50 tamales each. 30 days advance notice, please.

Collection of California Sales Tax: Unless a valid resale permit is presented to seller prior to the sale, purchaser will be required to pay all state and local retail sales taxes applicable in the date of sale. Resale permits will be accepted only for businesses that are reasonably expected to buy and sell wine. Sales tax will be collected on the purchase price of each lot which contains tangible goods.
