The Mystery and Magic of Wine Caves

--Private Guided Tour for 2 of Napa Valley Wine Caves with Vincent Georges, owner of The Cave Company

--Lunch at a Nearby Location

--A Signed Copy of the Book, Into the Earth, by Daniel D’Agostini and Molly Chappellet

Caves have long evoked a sense of awe and wonder, calling us to explore them and see what lies within. For centuries, man has been constructing caves or preserving natural ones for places of safekeeping, ceremonies or rituals.

In 1881, the first excavations for wine storage in Napa Valley were cut into the side of Diamond Mountain for a massive underground network of caves. Later, in the 1970s, the seeds of the modern wine cave industry began to germinate. Cool, humid, and perfect for the preservation of wine, the cave industry was spawned in Napa Valley.

The digging of a wine cave is part art, part science. Here is your opportunity to visit 2 caves in Napa Valley and hear firsthand from the man who built them, Vincent Georges, owner of The Cave Company.  Vincent will take you on a tour of caves that represent his most interesting projects, where you’ll witness firsthand the work of the artist and scientist.

You’ll also be able to sample the wines produced and stored at these locales, whose beauty and taste are nurtured by the earth in which they reside.

Vincent has been building wine caves in the Napa Valley since 1995 and is a graduate of Stanford University with a BS in Civil Engineering and an MS in Construction Engineering and Management. He has managed and participated in the construction of more than 400,000 square feet of custom underground structures and feels fortunate to contribute to the romance of a well-crafted wine.

There is no more fascinating way to learn about this important part of the wine industry, than to explore caves with the man who built them!
