Item Description

Want to become a professional writer and publish a book? Join author Amanda Montell, GWCCAT class of 2010, for an hour-long writers' career consultation via Skype and receive a signed copy of her book, Wordslut: A Feminist Guide to Taking Back the English Language (HarperCollins, 2019).

Amanda will share all her insider knowledge of the publishing and editorial industries and offer advice for how you too can write and publish books for a living. Since her days at Carver Center, Amanda went on to graduate magna cum laude with a degree in linguistics from NYU. At age 27, she published her debut book, Wordslut: A Feminist Guide to Taking Back the English Language (Harper Wave, 2019), which earned critical acclaim from the New York Times, TIME, BUST, Harper's Bazaar, Publisher's Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and others. Amanda is currently adapting Wordslut for television with FX. As a reporter and essayist, Amanda's writing has been featured in Marie Claire, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Nylon, Woman's Day, The Rumpus, Bustle, Byrdie.com, and Who What Wear, where she formerly served as the Features & Beauty Editor. Amanda lives in Los Angeles where she is currently working on her second book, Mindfuck: The Secret Language of Cults (Spoiler: You're Already Using It). In her spare time, Amanda enjoys learning impractical languages, doting upon her spoiled pets, and volunteering as a crisis counselor for LGBTQ youth.
