HINAMATSURI PARTY is co-hosted by Japanese American Museum and NLF Alumni parent and staff member Susie Kagami. 

Celebrate ‘Hinamatsuri’, a 100 year old tradition for young girls in Japan!  JAMSj has a rare and unique exhibit of Hinamatsuri Girls Day Dolls which includes the doll set from the General Council of Japan and is partnering with NLF to create a special party just for us.  Dress your child in her favorite yukata, take photos in front of the historic edo-period inspired building, enjoy light refreshments, create a memorable keepsake ornamental hairpiece, and enjoy the beautiful dolls on display. 

More about Hinamatsuri:   During one of Japan’s most beautiful, but unofficial holidays, Hina dolls are displayed during Hinamatsuri Girl’s Day, which is celebrated by girls all over the country every year on March 3. During this day, Japanese households with young daughters decorate their homes with ornamental dolls (hina dolls) on red-cloth covered platforms. The dolls are said to represent the emperor, empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period, and are used to pray for girls’ prosperity, health and, traditionally, a stable and successful marriage. ~ Savvytokyo.com

The Japanese American Museum of San Jose, established in November of 1987, grew out of a 1984-86 research project on Japanese American farmers in the Santa Clara Valley. The farming project collected family histories, historical photographs, private memoirs and other unpublished documents and led to the development of a curriculum package on Japanese American history, which was adopted for use by the San Jose Unified and Eastside Union High School Districts. 

The museum currently occupies the former residence of Tokio Ishikawa, M.D. two doors south on North Fifth Street in San Jose Japantown and showcases a unique collection of permanent and rotating exhibits chronicling more than a century of Japanese American history. $60 includes one lucky child to participate in the Girl’s Day Party and the museum entrance fee for one parent. This item is open only to the current NLF students and their families.  This party is limited to 20 children. 10 slots will be offered here Online. 10 slots will be offered at the Silent Auction at the event on February 23rd. Additional parents may attend and can pay the $8 entrance fee upon entering the museum.
