Tea for 10!

--Immersive and educational tea tasting for up to 10 people with local tea expert Ava Swartz at the new Rivers-Marie tasting room in Calistoga

--Cheese and fruit pairings provided

--To be redeemed in Winter 2020 or Spring 2021

Have you ever wondered about the difference between white, black, and green tea? What’s all this talk about the health benefits? Can tea really shrink tumors, or make you lose weight? Is there such a thing as naturally decaffeinated tea? Can you pair tea with cheese?

In a special afternoon tea tasting for ten people, expert Ava Swartz, journalist, writer, and lecturer about tea (certified by the Specialty Tea Institute), will demystify the misconceptions about tea, and serve up the dark history of the brew. You’ll sample a variety of teas, from a green tai guan yen to a minerally rock oolong from the Wuyi Mountains to a fermented tea that was once banned in the US. You’ll learn how tea is processed, why there was once a tea czar in the US and how the secrets of tea were unlocked by a botanical spy from Scotland in 1800s China. Ava will demonstrate and guide you through the way that different foods, fruits, and cheeses can enhance the taste of the tea, unlocking multidimensional flavors and textures with each sip.

Enjoy it all from the Rivers-Marie tasting room, slated to open in late 2020: you’ll be among the first to experience the winery’s airy, green, and gorgeous new space in Calistoga. Its burnt wood and fern décor are sure to heighten your senses – you’re sure to leave this experience feeling renewed and reinvigorated, and ever so much more knowledgeable.
