Item Description
It is no surprise that BHS' librarian loves to read. As a librarian serving teens and tweens, he mostly reads about gay wizards these days, but he has also read a considerable amount of Dostoevsky and essays on nationalism. Additionally, he is an avid home cook and an amateur genealogist. Before coming to BHS, Vincent traveled, studied and worked in Russia and the Balkans. While he's a bit rusty these days, he has studied Russian, Bulgarian, Sebian, and French. After living in Europe, he moved to Rockaway, Queens where he narrowly survived Hurricane Sandy and lost most of his worldly possessions. Vincent also loves history. He worked one summer in the Othmer Library at the Brooklyn Historical Society and can tell you all about how to research family and real estate in Kings County.
Vincent grew up in Ulster County, N. Y. and he has two siblings, one of them is a chemist and one of them is a music producer. Vincent now lives in Brooklyn. A teacher at BHS for seven years, Vincent has given his youth to this community. Do you know what he used to teach before he was a librarian? Do you know which faculty member is his roommate? Or the birth of whose child he was present for? If any of this sounds interesting to you, or if you just want to know more about the life of a librarian, then have lunch with Vincent Hyland one mutually-convenient afternoon. His treat!
