Item Description

This collection includes:

El Angosto 'Angosto' Tinto 2009, Valencia

Wine Advocate 91:

The 2009 Angosto is made up of equal proportions of Malbec, Garnacha Tintorera, Syrah, Graciano, and Cabernet Franc aged for 10 months in 500-liter French oak. It offers up a complex perfume made more so by a hint of balsamic. Racy raspberries enliven the palate with succulent flavor and vibrant acidity.

Descendientes De Jose Palacios Petalos del Bierzo 2011, Bierzo

Vinous 90:

Deep ruby. Smoky cherry and dark berry aromas are complemented by suave floral and dark chocolate nuances. Blackberry and bitter cherry flavors become sweeter with air, picking up a peppery note that adds vibrancy. Closes spicy and long, with sneaky tannins and an echo of bitter chocolate.

Cellar Capcanes Mas Donis Barrica 2010, Catalonia

Wine Advocate 92:

Produced from 85% Garnacha (70-year-old vines) and 15% Syrah (30-year-old vines) aged nine months in new and older American and French oak, it is another under-the-radar wine that dramatically over-delivers. A custom cuvee made for Eric Solomon, it exhibits notes of rose petals, raspberry jam, crushed rocks, spring flowers and kirsch. Stunningly rich and medium to full-bodied, with wonderful vibrancy, precision and minerality, this beauty could easily pass for a grand cru Burgundy – it’s that complex and interesting. I am blown away by what’s in the bottle.

Finca Villacreces Pruno 2010, Castilla y Leon

Wine Advocate 94:

Wow! From a vineyard adjacent to Spain’s greatest as well as most expensive red wine, Vega Sicilia, this 2,500-case cuvee made for Eric Solomon is spectacular. Full-bodied with an opaque purple color in addition to an extraordinary bouquet of charcoal, wood smoke, creme de cassis and blackberries intermixed with hints of acacia flowers and licorice, this stunning, multidimensional 2010 is loaded. Its texture, richness, complexity, purity and length result in a wine that considerably over-delivers. Drink 2012-2022.

Black Slate Porrera 2012, Catalonia

Wine Advocate 93:

From one of Priorat’s coolest micro-climates, this 2012 Black Slate is composed of 60% old vine Grenache (60+ years) and 40% old Carignan (80 years), and aged 12 months in concrete tanks, old wood foudres, and two-year-old barrels. It reveals lots of licorice, crushed wet rock, sweet blueberry and black raspberry fruit characteristics along with a full-bodied, moderately tannic mouthfeel. The tannins are sweet and well-integrated, and the wine is drinking beautifully already. For a relatively expensive Spanish appellation, this is an outright steal!

Numanthia Termes 2014, Toro

Wine Spectator 92:

Cocoa and toasty notes frame black cherry and currant flavors in this round red. Well-integrated tannins and fine acidity give this balance and focus. In the polished, modern style. Drink now through 2028.
