Item Description
This collection includes:
Fattoria Del Cerro Vino Nobile 2010, Montepulciano
Vinous 92:
The 2010 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is laced with iron, smoke, tobacco, black cherries and scorched earth. Firm tannins provide the backbone for this deeply expressive, layered Vino Nobile. Here, too, all the elements are very much in balance. Drink 2014-2025.
Jocopo Biondi-Santi Sassoalloro 2008, Tuscany
Wine Spectator 90:
Needs aeration to reveal the rich blackberry and black cherry flavors locked within this muscular red, which is firm and bright, with a mineral finish. Be patient. Best from 2014 through 2024.
Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Calderara Sottana 2011, Sicily
Wine Advocate 94:
The 2011 Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana is light in color but masculine in personality. It’s a tight, nervous wine that needs more time to evolve in the cellar. Pretty fruit tones of wild berry and cassis set the stage, leaving ample room for nuanced mineral expressions. The tannins are tight, but polished and should become finer with age. Drink 2017-2030.
Pecchenino San Luigi Dolcetto di Dogliani 2012, Piedmont
Wine Enthusiast 90:
This lovely Dolcetto is delicious, fresh and utterly drinkable. It has a classic fragrance of strawberry, cherry and licorice, all of which carry over to the palate, along with earthy notes and a hint of almond. Made to be enjoyed young, this pairs perfectly with pasta dishes and pizza.
Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Bianco 2012, Sicily
Vinous 91:
(a blend of carricante and other local grapes): Golden straw-yellow. Complex, aromatic nose combines lemon, hazelnut, almond and vanilla. Rich, chewy and broad but with strong acidity and a saline quality giving shape to the smooth middle palate. Finishes with lovely length and lift.
Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo 2014, Piedmont
Wine Advocate 90:
The 2014 Langhe Nebbiolo was born in what Alfio Cavallotto tells me was a problematic vintage with severe hail and rain storms. Because this estate farms according to organic and biodynamic methods, it lost up to 65% of its production. In fact, Cavallotto will not produce Barolo in 2014. The best Nebbiolo fruit was directed to this wine instead. Their loss is our gain as this wine offers a very good quality to price ratio. Fruit was harvested very late (the last few days of October) and the wine shows dark cherry ripeness with good structure at the back. The finish is slightly sweet and the wine ages in large oak casks for 18 months. Best 2017-2021.
