Owner Seth Woods began his professional life on Wall Street. Within months a lifelong love of food led him away from a career in finance to The Culinary Institute of America, then to Manhattan's world renowned Union Square Café. After arriving in Boston, Woods served as Executive Chef of Armani Café while he searched Boston for the location of his own neighborhood spot. In early 1995 he purchased Tremont Ice Cream Shop, renovated and in its place opened Metropolis Café.
