Item Description
AWOL K-9 Commando: The 1st in the AWOL series.
There is a saying that the dog is the only animal which ever sees its God. Certainly, when an abused Doberman Pinscher, AWOL from the German army's war dog corps, is rescued by a young American correspondent, the dog recognizes his God and claims George Stanhope as his only master. Taken home to the USA circumstances later lead to AWOL'S enlistment in the K-9 Corps of the U.S. Army and he travels to England & France for adventures during WWII.
The author Bertrand Shurtleff, 1897-1967, was a former football star from Brown University who was also a professional wrestler. He acted in a few movies, and toward the end of his life lectured at civic clubs and schools.
1st Edition - 1944. Book is in Very Good condition - dust jacket has some edge damage but is in decent condition. Board bindings are firm. No writing or other markings. No dog-eared pages or foxing.
Interestingly - there is a dedication written on the first page, dated October 24 1944, to a boy named Jimmie from his teacher and signed by all his classmates - in cursive writing and fountain pens with real ink ! How cool is that!
