WHO WE ARE:

We’re a fun, globally-inspired, neighborhood Mexican restaurant located in Santa Monica Canyon, just a few hundred feet from the beach. We’re open every day for dinner, with weekday Happy Hour and weekend brunch. Co-Owners Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan both grew up going to this location in its former incarnation as Marix Tex Mex, and long thought of doing their own personal project in this space. When the opportunity came up, they partnered with award-winning Chef Jeremy Fox (Rustic Canyon, Birdie G’s) and they’re now fulfilling that dream.

THE FOOD & DRINKS
Our kitchen is overseen by Executive Chef Saw Naing and Jeremy, whose shared love for great ingredients and passion for homestyle cooking is translated into a menu full of rich, bold flavors and imaginative takes on Mexican dishes. Inspired by Saw’s Burmese and Indian heritage, the seasonal, market-driven menu playfully combines these influences with Mexican cuisine. The result is utterly unique to Tallula’s, and yet, comfortingly familiar.

With a focus on high-quality, organic ingredients, everything is sourced from the nearby Santa Monica Farmers’ Market or regional farmers, fishermen, ranchers and purveyors with sustainable practices. Our culinary team also calls on time-honored recipes to make fresh chile pastes, spice spends and salsas in-house, as well as fresh, heirloom corn masa for our tortillas. The Mexican-inspired dessert menu was created by Zoe, a celebrated baker, and is run by our team.

We also have a colorful bar, lounge and outdoor patio with one of the largest collections of Mexican spirits on the Westside! We thoughtfully source spirits like tequila, mezcal, rum and lesser-known options like raicilla and sotol from small-batch producers in Mexico. We have a great craft beer selection, and create classic and seasonal cocktails with housemade syrups and fresh produce from the market. Rustic Canyon Family Wine Director Kathryn Coker created the eclectic wine list, featuring 30 wines from boutique producers around the world like Mexico, Spain, Argentina, France and California.

Tallula’s is part of the Rustic Canyon Family, a collection of beloved, chef-driven dining destinations which includes Rustic Canyon, Huckleberry Bakery & Cafe, Sweet Rose Creamery, Milo & Olive, Cassia, Esters Wine Shop & Bar, Milo SRO, Cassia Rice & Noodle Kitchen and Birdie G’s. The group embraces seasonality and makes as much as possible in-house using classic craftsmanship and technique, sourcing the highest-quality ingredients from local farmers and vendors with sustainable practices. Each restaurant takes “family” to heart, by ensuring all guests, as well as employees, feel at home, and leave satisfied, nourished and inspired.
