Item Description
“Elephant With Flowers” was made in memory of Bella, an elephant rescued by Wildlife SOS in 2019. She was in deplorable shape on a street corner, breathing heavy and covered with wounds (bedsores and gangrenous feet). The Wildlife SOS vets had to stabilize her before she could be transported to the Elephant Hospital.
Once there, she was showed tenderness and love (perhaps for the first time in her life). They gave her everything they could, but after only two weeks, she passed away. She was just too weak after the 60 years of neglect and abuse.
The artist said, “This watercolor is inspired by the ones that don’t make it and the ones left behind. This elephant sits in the Field of Dreams holding a bouquet of flowers (larger than life flowers, for a larger than life animal). She reaches the flowers up toward the heavens as an offering. I wanted this painting to be bright, colorful, and happy. Despite the solemnity of the elephants lost, it’s a tribute to those who are now thriving and the caretakers who go to extreme measures to help these animals finally feel joy.”
Size: 9x12” Original Watercolor Painting
