Collectible Pendants

Item Description

Every year we ask our supporters to select the elephant for that year's pendant as well as what image and inscription we should use. In 2019, you helped choose Suzy with the message, "Suzy, Our Sunshine."

This pendant is a one-of-a-kind production and completely unique from our other pendants because it has a different finish on it in light polish. 

Suzy is a blind elephant, who was forced to perform in a circus for most part of her life. Subjected to mental torture, continuous chaining and confinement, she was approx. 60 years old when rescued in February 2015 by Wildlife SOS and moved to the Elephant Conservation and Care Center in Mathura safely. After arriving at her new home, she quickly adjusted to her new environment as well as made a new friend in Asha, who helps her navigate the terrain on their morning and evening strolls. 

 This is the 5th collectible commemorative pendant we have made along with Raju, Suraj, Mohan, and Laxmi (in that order).

This year, we were happy to accept the help of supporter and artist Carla Sardeira to design this pendant. We were truly happy to see how she was able to capture Suzy's likeness in her design and we're excited to offer the Suzy pendant in our commemorative lineup. 

About the artist: 

When Carla Marina Sardeira designs a piece of jewelry it is with the intent to empower, inspire and celebrate.

With origins in Mozambique and Portugal and extensive international experience, Carla’s lens allows her to create original designs that enhance the natural brilliance and essence of each individual.

Trained at Parsons School of Design, Carla specialized in product design with a concentration in metals.  In her third year at Parsons, Swarovski in their International Design Challenge recognized Carla by awarding her with the High Standard of Design Award for an original design concept.

Throughout her career she has traveled the globe, exploring and interpreting its marvels into unique designs.

She has been the lead designer and has concepted, designed and overseen production for collections of renowned brands. Carla got her start interning with designer Robert Lee Morris and as she honed her design craft, spent time working in various New York based jewelry houses bringing her unique lens to their businesses and enriching their offerings.  In 2000, she launched Tommy Hilfiger’s costume jewelry business as lead designer working in tandem with Tommy, his divisional heads, design and sales teams. She was recruited by Liz Claiborne to direct design for the Monet division, and subsequently went on to work for Joan Rivers Worldwide. Under Carla’s 6-year direction as Vice President of Design and Product Development, she grew the Joan Rivers Classics Collections from a fashion jewelry, watch and tabletop business into a complete lifestyle brand.

Today, Carla focuses on premium fine jewelry that empower her to continually create exquisite designs, and simultaneously celebrate everything she is passionate about; creativity, quality, talent, nature, and humanity at its best.  Reinforcing her gratitude for the endless talent she is privileged to work with, and the infinite inspiration surrounding her wherever she may be.
