Fund-A-Need $100 Donation

Help us create a safer environment for our dogs and staff & volunteers!

We need your help to fund 2 projects. Both will improve safety and the health of our dogs here. A donor has generously offered a matching grant of $20,000 for these projects if we can raise another $20,000 by midnight on May 31.  Will you help?

Dog kennel replacement

We have 10 chain link kennels that need to be replaced! They are 30 years old and are heavily worn with rust (so difficult to clean and sanitize), and have some rough, sharp edges from deterioration. These kennels are just not safe anymore! Our dogs can also see each other through the chain link and thus fence fighting is an issue. This increases their stress and makes their behavior unpredictable, which is not safe for our staff and volunteers caring for them.

We plan to renovate and replace them with laminate lined kennels that are 7 1/2 feet tall and feature tempered glass doors. These are easy to clean and properly sanitize, safer for the dogs inside, and easier for our staff and volunteers to navigate dogs in and out of the enclosure. There will be no opportunity to see other dogs, which will decrease their stress and anxiety and these smooth, full walls will not cause injury like the chain link kennels sometimes do.

Improving our dog walking trails

We have 6 acres of land with great walking trails for our shelter pups to enjoy. Thanks to our amazing volunteers, our dogs usually enjoy a walk outside 5-6 times a day! It keeps them healthy, happy and the interaction with our volunteers is so good for them. The trails are lined with woodchips and perfect in the summer and fall, but utterly treacherous in the winter! We shovel, snow blow and sand the trails, but it quickly turn slick and icy from usage and is dangerous for our dogs and volunteers.

We want to pave these walking trails. Once paved, we could plow with our tractor in the winter to make these trails clear and safe for our dogs and volunteers to enjoy. These walks are important to the dogs’ physical and mental health here with us.
