Item Special Note

The Corliss-Carrington Mansion was built in 1810 for business entrepreneur John Corliss. Forced to sell it just two years later, the brick mansion that sits on nearly an acre was then sold to Edward Carrington.
Edward Carrington (1775-1843) was born in New Haven, Connecticut. As a young man, he came to Providence, R.I., where he worked as a clerk and supercargo for local merchants Seth Wheaton, Samuel Butler, and Richard Jackson. He resided in Canton, China from 1802 to 1810, serving as American Consul, acting as an agent for other American merchants, and amassing a considerable fortune by trading on his own behalf. His papers are held at the RIHS Robinson Research Center.
You and your guests will then enjoy a reception hosted by the RIHS and the home's current owner, Lorne Adrain. Adrain purchased the home in 2019. Lorne Adrain, author of The Most Important Thing I Know book series, is a graduate of Harvard Business School and the University of Rhode Island. He plans to establish the Global Fellows in Courage and use the house for visiting fellows from around the world. The program seeks to bring “emerging leaders together to create positive social change on an international scale while having a lasting impact on Rhode Island."
