Item Description
Region: Coonawarra, Australia
Very good winter rains of 2013 were followed by a wet and windy spring. The inclement weather during spring resulted in a poor fruit set resulting in lower than average crop at vintage. A typical warm to hot January was followed by ideal conditions from verasion through to full ripeness. Our grapes were in excellent condition for the 2014 vintage.
2014 Shiraz:
This Shiraz celebrates 40 vintages of Shiraz at Bowen Estate. The wine is a great representation of our continuing devotion to Coonawarra Shiraz. Upon approaching the wine, you are greeted by a beautiful plummy aroma. Great depth of spicy fruit characters generously fills the palate giving it a supple rounded mouth feel. As ever these fruit characters are well supported by Coonawarra’s trade mark fine tannin structure. The use of well integrated oak adds to the tannin structure giving extra persistence. A wine to drink now or in the future.
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon:
Doug Bowen celebrated his 40th vintage at Bowen Estate making this 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon a great nod to the family’s belief in Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine shows all the trademarks of classic coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Vibrant red purple hues shine from the glass. The nose is full of rich dark berry characteristics with nuances of classic Coonawarra mint. The wine has a very well structured palate with fine grainy Cabernet Sauvignon tannins well supported by fine tannins from French oak. The palate is intense showing great flavour and softness with lingering finesse leaving you asking for more.
Bowen Estate's vision is for the style of wine that they ike to produce begins with the vineyard. Firstly, the location of the vineyard is on the traditional prime terra rossa soil of Coonawarra. This is of the utmost importance to the winemakers. Secondly, they have a very strong belief in the traditional hand pruning of our vines, combined with an arch cane trellis system. This improves the evenness of budburst, bunch exposure and ripeness, but more importantly, this method of pruning ensures that we have a balanced vine. Therefore the vine will produce fruit of optimum quality. It is this optimum fruit that makes our bench mark wines which reflect the true characteristics of Coonawarra - strong varietal aromas, big flavours and soft balanced tannins.
