Artist’s Statement:
My initial interest in photography developed out of my love of travel. My childhood dream had been of wandering around the world: to see how other people live, experience their cultures, listen to their music, taste their food and explore their art. My first body of work that was exhibited was in this vein – a photojournalistic approach to the people inhabiting different parts of the world.
Over the past several years I have worked on developing my own style using “found objects”, both close to home or in the far-flung corners of the world. I incorporate movement, reflections, unusual patterns and color in my work. It has been an interesting transition and has opened a new creative path, including working with Encaustic.
Encaustic work is a combination of beeswax and beeswax/tree resin. It is the resin that protects the art and the color. I have combined my photography with wax, resin, oil paints, chalks, water colors, etc. to produce collage, mixed media, etc. Each is a unique rendition of an original photograph.
