Cigar Smoker and Fly Fishing Clinic 2020
The newly-renovated and stunning Greek Gothic mansion, Suncliff on the Lake*, will be hosting a cigar smoker and a two-day fly fishing and fly tying clinic on October 16-18, 2020. Suncliff is located on the shores of Lake Erie in Derby, NY (17 miles south of Buffalo, NY). This is a fun and educational opportunity to learn to tie flies and learn to fly fish with renowned artist, educator and the 2020 Orvis Fly Fishing Guide of the Year Finalist, Alberto Rey. You will learn the aspects
of fly fishing including history, equipment, types of fish, local fisheries, types of flies, fly tying, casting and so much more.

The weekend full of activities will begin with a dinner and smoker on Friday, October 16, 2020.  Saturday, October 17, will include presentations introducing participants to fly fishing with a full day of fly tying instruction. Breakfast , lunch and dinner will be included. Sunday, October 18, will include a full day of instruction of the stream as we try to seduce steelhead using the flies
you tied the previous day. A bag lunch on the stream and dinner at Suncliff are included.

Appropriate COVID guidelines will be followed as needed.

Friday, October 16, 2020 – Dinner and Smoker
6-7pm - cocktails
7pm - dinner
8 - 10pm - Cigar Smoker and Bar on the porch

Saturday, October 17, 2020 – Fly Fishing Clinic: Day 1
8am - breakfast - meet at Suncliff on the Lake
9am - 12pm - introductions, history of fly fishing, equipment, local fisheries, types of fish, when and where to fish, types of flies, introduction to fly tying
12-1 - lunch
1pm- 6pm - tie fly patterns and discuss flies that would be effective for steelhead, get wader and boot sizes
6-7pm - cocktails - cash bar
7pm - dinner
8 - 10pm - social time: cocktails and possibly tie flies

Sunday, October 17, 2020– Fly Fishing Clinic: Day 2
8am - (7:30 sunrise) - Meet at Alberto Rey’s house (Fredonia, NY) and studio to try on waders
9am - 12pm - go to local stream, review casting techniques, and review presentation of flies, and review fly fishing techniques for steelhead.
12-1 - bagged lunch - tentative time - depends on what is happening on stream
1pm- 5pm - go to different stream if needed - continue to fish for steelhead
6-7pm - return to Suncliff for cocktails
7-8pm - dinner
8 - 10pm - social time: cocktails - cash bar

Participants are responsible for having NYS fishing license, polarized glasses and appropriate
clothing including waterproof jackets (preferably not brightly colored).
