About the Artist

Anna Isakson, Schurig Center Artist

Anna came to The Schurig Center after having a stroke in 2013, at age 70. It mostly affected her peripheral vision, and created multiple random blind-spots. Finding her place first in a Schurig Center support group, and then, computer program, she wondered how she could be part of the art program. She then signed up for the “day program” where there was Art on a daily basis! The rest, as they say, is history.

Anna soon began to volunteer to help Midge in the studio, which eventually led to a teacher assistant training program through CC Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.

Through this program Midge was able to train Anna to be her assistant, and also train Anna to lead groups on her own as well.

This has been a truly amazing win-win for all involved, and last year Anna was given a part-time staff position, a Schurig Center first!
