Common Kingfisher, 4 ½ x 5 ½ pastel on pastel-mat board
The common kingfisher is widely distributed over Europe, Asia and North Africa. It feeds mainly on fish caught by diving and has special visual adaptations to enable it to see prey underwater.

About the artist:
David Stevenson is a contemporary still-life painter based in Seattle, Washington. He specializes in chiaroscuro paintings reminiscent of the Dutch masters; his medium of choice being oil on panel. Lately, David has broadened his choice of mediums to include pastel pencils as a way to bring more light into his work as well as to learn a new medium. “There are more similarities between pastels and oils than people would think,” he states as the reason for his success.
THANK YOU DAVID FOR ALLOWING 'KINGFISHER' TO BE THE FACE OF THE NEST 2020 AUCTION!
