Item Description
The papa kuiai (wood board) is made from mango wood harvested in West Maui and carved by the late pastry chef, Ed Morita with a Maui organization called Loiloa Iao Valley. The papa kuiai will come with a pohaku (rock, stone) made by Duffy Chang and Kealoha Domingo.
The papa kuiai used for pounding kalo (taro), uala (sweet potato) and ulu (bread fruit).
In addition, Kealoha Domingo will provide a kui (pounding) lesson.
Item Special Note
Board is unvarnished and treated instead with a food safe mineral oil. Oil may need to be periodically reapplied to keep the wood from drying out.
Chef Ed was working on carving the board prior to his passing in September. Finishing touches to the board done by Koi Lum on Ed's behalf.
Pick up at HFWF office in Honolulu, otherwise shipping charges apply.
