The definitive book on the plants of The Kampong of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Miami, this volume is very comprehensive. Each plant is detailed in its origin, medicinal properties, common and botanical names and location on the property. Exquisite color plates and photos punctuate the volume as do highly detailed botanical drawings. The Kampong, The Fairchild’s Tropical Paradise Book by Bertram Zuckerman
Historian Bertram Zuckerman created this excellent volume on The Kampong in 1993. Jointly published by Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden and the National Tropical Botanical Garden, this entertaining and illuminating book details the history of The Kampong from its origins in the 1870s. Well-illustrated with photos from the last century and beyond, this book gives the reader comprehensive insights into one of the oldest botanical sites in the US. The Kampong is the former home of renowned botanist and plant explorer for the USDA, Dr. David Fairchild. The site was recently the private estate of Dr. Catherine Sweeney, and is currently one of the five gardens of the National Tropical Botanical Garden, based in Kauai, Hawaii. 160 pages.
