Item Description
This hand-painted resin statue from Sivana depicts the Buddha as Shakyamuni ("Sage of the Shakya people"), seated in meditation posture in what is termed "Calling the Earth to Witness" posture. At the moment of Shakyamuni's enlightenment, and transformation into the Buddha, he touched his right hand to the ground, calling the Earth to witness his victory over the material world. What a powerful moment!
A little bit of history: The Buddha's name was Siddhartha Gautama and he was a prince of the Shakya people. He renounced his riches and dedicated himself wholeheartedly to seeking enlightenment through meditation. Through his great spiritual strength in meditation he attained enlightenment, and his teaching of the Middle Way of even-mindedness spread into the world. The Buddha is now one of the most widely represented great masters of meditation.
Sivana is a second generation company. In 1998, founders Marc & Janet started selling shirts with a gold embroidered OM on them. With tongue firmly in cheek sons Benn and Sam say that "despite the quality of those shirts they were an instant hit". Over the last many years the sons have added their own spin to Sivana.
