Item Description

One hour private guided tour of the Sosa-Carrillo House  and a leisurely visit with members of Los Descendientes and platicas (conversations) about Tucson in the rear patio.

Presented by Rachel Pollack, a member of Los Descendientes and the Presidio

The historic Sosa-Carrillo House, now home to the new Mexican-American
Heritage and History Museum, sits alone and completely out of context,
surrounded by the Tucson Convention Center. Once situated in a Mexican
barrio (neighborhood) on vibrant Main Street, the building was home to
Tucson’s pioneer Sosa, Carrillo and Jacobs families. This typical Sonoran
row house features a central hall (zaguan) leading from the front door to
the rear courtyard. Inside its seven high-ceiling rooms and two-foot-thick
adobe walls, exhibits on a wide range of subjects related to Tucson’s
diverse community of Mexican-Americans, African-Americans, Chinese and
Jewish families, who had settled in the barrio south of the original Spanish-
colonial presidio, are displayed.

For a group of 10.  Tasting of traditional foods will be included in this tour as well as drinks.

Thank you to Los Descendientes for sharing the museum with the Tucson
Presidio for our fundraiser.
