Item Description

Genuine Oatcakes were born of three decades of experimentation, a strong desire to create something truly magnificent from the finest locally sourced ingredients, and a belief that people are able to respond to goodness.

Three hundred and eighty thousand oatcakes (and six years) later we've been able to establish a loyal following — for the genuine taste, yes — and also for the authenticity. People sense there's an honesty here and they perceive real value. As a food what delights is also life sustaining.

During the current upheaval a lot of attention focuses on health and healing. At least one Tibetan teacher we've been following suggests it might be possible to include healing energy in prepared foods. We have no idea if this is actually true, and yet it does seem to be a good idea to hold this ideal (as a key ingredient in the recipe) as a disciplined intention. Hopefully the oatcakes just get better and better.

The KiloCan was an early innovation-- using repurposed large coffee cans from Halifax Bridge Clubs for mailing -- well over a kilo, 80+ oatcakes, packed with certified organic oatmeal as edible cushioning (to prevent breakage). Zero waste packaging that really works.

GNSO owner and practitioner Ken Wallace listens to dharma while baking. You can see here what he was listening to when he made each batch over the last five years.
