Item Description

Dimensions: 9 3/4 inches in diameter, 2 1/4 inches high
Medium: Kiln formed glass
Description: Bullseye art glass, 3 layers, components fired separately, ground and hand sanded, sandblasted and fire polished to a matte finish.

The on-edge construction technique involves cutting and setting narrow strips of sheet glass on edge and fusing them together, carefully measuring
and placing them around the other components. This piece required 4 ? 5 firings of 24-hour cycles. The last of the firings gives the piece its shape from a mold.
Looks great as a decorative piece or can be used as functional glassware. Food safe. Dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended.

About the artist:

Gabriele Baumann is a German-born fused glass artist from Burlington, Vermont. She was a manager of a travel agency in Germany before she moved to Toronto with her husband, and later to Burlington where they now reside with their four children.

She opened a home-based baking business for a few years, also catering to two cafes. After winning a fused glass workshop with the Davis Studio here in Burlington through a raffle at the annual Art Hop, she became fascinated with glass. She has always enjoyed contemporary design and finds glass to be a perfect medium to express her ideas and to utilize her skills of precision and attention to detail. Gabriele's work is influenced by her European heritage and everything she sees around her in nature, textiles and photography.
