Item Description
According to Vietnamese belief, there are four sacred animals including the dragon, unicorn, tortoise and phoenix symbolizing power, intellect, longevity and nobility. These creatures are often seen in many works of art and architecture.
Pictured on these laquered plaques with mother of pearl insets are the Tortoise and the Unicorn. The Vietnamese Unicorn seems half dragon and half mammal. This beast may be depicted with one, two, or no horns.
The plaques measure 7 1/2" W x 19 1/4" H and are excellent pre-owned condition.
